The Ohio Christian University Outdoor Track and Field team had a strong start to the season this past weekend at Cedarville University's Collegiate Outdoor Open.
SR. Elijah Newland opened up with a personal best in the pole vault event, which also resulted in a new school record in the event with a vault of 3.35m. Elijah Newland holds both the men's indoor and outdoor pole vault records for the Track and Field teams.
SO. Abigail Kobs followed up with a National Qualification in the 3000-meter Steeple Chase with a time of 12:35.11 and placing 3rd overall in the event. While not quite a personal best for Kobs, this is a great start in such a physical event.
In the 10,000-meter race, both SR. Corry Mientkiewicz and SR. Jason Springer pulled off National Qualifications with Mientkiewicz finishing with a time of 34:14.04 and Springer finishing with a time of 34:28.24.
SO. Paige Parker also competed in the 10,000-meter race, finishing 3rd overall with a time of 39:39.12. This is a tough race for a young runner, but Parker was also able to smash to qualifying standard for this event.
SR. Evan Caldwell ran a personal best in the 1500-meter race, finishing with a time of 4:18.03. While the 1500-meter is not a race he is used to running, Caldwell showed a lot of promise in this event with opportunities to see this time drop in the future.
FR. Evan Mesiberger added to the list of athletes punching their ticket to the national meet with his performances in the 110-meter and the 400-meter hurdles. Evan ran a time of 15.53 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and a time of 58.68 seconds in the 400 hurdles to finish 10th overall. These performances also put Evan's name on the school record board for both events.
FR. Kayden Vanhoose also performed well in his event, earning a personal record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.59.
