WABASH, IN - The track and field team had a big day at Wabash College's Huntsman Family Invite on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by
Payton Herron breaking the 3000m steeplechase record, previously held by current assistant coach Chet Mientkiewicz.
Herron hit the record with the school's first sub-10 minute time of 9:55.69 - a 41-second PB for the junior from his race just one week prior. Herron placed second out of nine athletes and is currently ranked third in the River States Conference in the event.
The team's freshmen women showed up in their first 1500m run, led by
Paige Parker with a time of 5:03.48 for a fourth-place finish out of 19 athletes. The freshman is ranked fourth in the RSC in the event.
Fellow freshman
Abigail Kobs won her heat with a time of 5:19.30, followed by closely by
Impreza Rogers with a time of 5:24.79. Both freshman also competed in the 800m for the first time collegiately, with time sof 2:39.97 and 2:41.55 respectively.
Lexie Engstrom won the 800m run out of 12 athletes with a time of 2:27.29. Parker finished just a second behind with a time of 2:28.30 in her first-ever 800m run. Engstrom's time puts her at fourth in the RSC in the event while Parker comes in at seventh.
Garrett Carver came up with an 18-second PB of 4:23.58 in the 1500m run.
Jason Springer also PR'd in the 1500m by 12 seconds with a time of 4:27.29.
Jaden Smith hit a PB in discus with a mark of 32.62m and
Korban Cominsky had a two-second PB in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.35.
The Trailblazers have a week break from meets and are back in action on Friday, April 19th at the Otterbein Twilight Invite.
