PITTSBURGH, PA - The track and field team spent their week in Pittsburgh, PA at the River States Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday and Friday. This will be the final RSC Championship meet as the Trailblazers transition out of the RSC and into the NCCAA in the fall.
The Trailblazers saw a podium finish, two school records and three individual PBs on the weekend.
Lexie Engstrom was on the podium for the Trailblazers with a third place finish in the 800m run. The junior negative split a 2:24.23 to earn her All-Conference honors.
The women's 4x800m relay team, composed of
Lexie Engstrom,
Impreza Rogers,
Abigail Kobs and
Paige Parker, opened the racing for the Trailblazers on Thursday and came just short of a podium finish, placing fourth out of nine teams with a time of 10:08.01. The time breaks the school record by 48 seconds.
Kobs shaved off a few fractions of a second off of her 3000m steeplechase school record just an hour after the 4x800m relay with a time of 12:50.35. The freshman placed sixth to score for the team.
Payton Herron scored for the men's side in the 3000m steeplechase with a seventh place finish and a time of 10:10.96.
Parker opened day two of competition with a sixth place finish in the 1500m run. She came up just five seconds short of her PB with a time of 5:08.01.
Senior
Jaden Smith had a two meter PB in the discus throw with a 34.27 meter throw.
Senior duo
Evan Caldwell and
Bryden Moxley came in seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 800m run out of 28 athletes. Caldwell came up with a PB for the second straight week of 1:58.12 while Moxley ran a 1:59.10.
Both the men and women competed in the 4x400m relay to round out the week. The women's team, made up of the same four athletes as the 4x800m relay, placed seventh out of 10 teams with a time of 4:26.71 to win their heat.
The men's team, composed of
Bryden Moxley,
Chris Corsaro,
Payton Herron and
Evan Caldwell, ran a 3:37.90.
The Trailblazers will finish their season at the Marian University Knight Last Chance Meet on Wednesday, May 8th.
