Circleville, OH - Ohio Christian University Esports is expanding its competitive opportunities through its decision to join Gateway Esports.
The move marks another step forward for the Trailblazer's program as it looks to build on its success while creating multiple opportunities to connect with students, other institutions, and communities.
OCU has primarily competed in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) since adding the program to Athletics, including multiple championship victories over NCAA Division I programs. With the transition to Gateway Esports, the team will have another avenue to compete and continue growing the program.
"Our decision to join Gateway Esports was driven by a commitment to growth and expanding our impact," said Head Esports Coach Dr.
David Pennington. "While we have enjoyed tremendous success competing in NACE, including multiple championships and victories over top NCAA Division I programs, we believe Gateway provides new opportunities to reach additional students, institutions, and communities."
Pennington said the decision is part of a larger vision for the future of OCU Esports and its influence beyond competition.
Gateway Esports provides collegiate esports programs with additional opportunities for competition and connection with institutions around the country. For OCU, joining Gateway adds another platform for the program to expand their presence while continuing to develop its student-athletes and program.
The decision reflects OCU Esports' commitment to continuing to evolve alongside the rapidly growing collegiate landscape.
"As Will Rogers said, 'Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there," Pennington said. "We are choosing to influence the current instead of merely riding it."
With this new league, Ohio Christian Esports looks to enter the next chapter of the program's growth while continuing to make an impact through competition, community, and the Trailblazer experience.
