GRAYSON, KY -- The Trailblazers took on Kentucky Christian University in the final away game of the regular season.
The Trailblazers took 15 minutes to get on the board when
Daisy Dunham slotted a ball to
Karissa Buttelwerth who just needed one touch to setup and one to calmly put it past the keeper.
Briston Terry assisted the second goal when she unselfishly squared to
Elizabeth Grooms for a wide open goal. The half ended with Trailblazers up 2-0. The second half would show a great response from the Knights who scored eight minutes into the second half to slice the lead. The game would go back and forth until the Trailblazers found another gear. Grooms played the ball behind the defense to Buttelwerth who fired it upper 90 just inside the 18 yard box. Buttelwerth turned provider as she played a ball into the box for Grooms who headed past the keeper. Buttelwerth scored another hat trick of the season when
Kyla Harvey won the ball deep in her half and sent Buttelwerth on a breakaway. Buttelwerth chipped the keeper to make it 5-1.
This has been a record breaking season for the Trailblazers who now add three additional records:
1. Perfect regular away season record at 8-0.
2. Most regular season wins in history.
3. Fewest goals conceded on the road.
"It's great to finish the season with a perfect record on the road," said Coach
Beth Arroyo. "Not many teams can say that. We broke several records this season, but it's not done yet. This is when we need to buckle down and keep focus on the goals we have. I love the daily grind over the course of the season. The commitment is there. The desire is there. We have one more regular season game at home, in which we will honor our seniors. We plan to go into this game the same we have all season and stick to the plan. I'm proud of the team!"
