COX TIES OCU'S NAIA SCORING RECORD WITH 40 POINTS AGAINST OAKLAND CITY

CIRCLEVILLE, OH – Haley Cox tied Ohio Christian's scoring record since being in the NAIA Thursday night, dropping a new career-high of 40 points against an Oakland City University side who is undefeated in conference play. The Trailblazers couldn't top the Mighty Oaks, falling 84-78 despite a solid first half. They move to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play with the loss.

Cox added six rebounds and two steals on top of her impressive shooting. She went 9-17 from the field with five triples and was perfect from the free throw line at 17-17.

Emma Koons came up with 19 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. Ashley Deweese had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Trailblazers came out with unmatched energy, going on a 12-4 run in the first three minutes. The Mighty Oaks came within two to close out the first quarter, but the Trailblazers took back control in the second and kept Oakland City from gaining a lead.

Cox shot 8-11 in the first quarter with four triples and a perfect 9-9 free throw percentage to get her 29 points in one half and 21 in the second quarter, nearly more than Oakland City scored as a team in the first half at 47-31.

The Mighty Oaks had the momentum coming out of the locker room and got within four at 49-45 five minutes in. The Trailblazers only put up 11 points in the third and the Mighty Oaks tied it at 58 on a buzzer beater to round out the quarter.

Oakland City got their largest lead of the game with eight minutes to play at 65-60 and had the Trailblazers flustered, forcing turnovers that made it difficult for Ohio Christian to run an offense.

Cox hit her career-high on a triple to put the Trailblazers within four at 67-63 and take her total to 36. Koons followed it up with a steal and a layup to give Ohio Christian the momentum.

They couldn't hold it as Oakland City closed hard with a 26-point fourth quarter to win 84-78.

The Trailblazers are home again this Saturday, January 20th as they take on Brescia University at 1 p.m.
