David R. Pennington currently lives in Grove City, Ohio. He joined the OCU family in 2011.

David started his coaching career when he signed on as the head Esports Coach for the Trailblazers in 2024. David earned his BA from the University of Indianapolis with a double-major in Political Science and History and a minor in Business. After graduating UIndy, David earned his MBA with a focus in Leadership from Franklin University. David then earned a Doctorate in Business Administration with a focus in International Business from Liberty University cognate is in International Business. He is a member of Phi Alpha Theta Honors Society in History, Delta Mu Delta Honors Society in Business, and Sigma Beta Delta honor society in business, management, and administration.  

Prior to OCU, David enjoyed a career that touched business (corporate/small/nonprofit), management, regulatory affairs, government, and banking. 

David has expanded the team in size and scope. The team has doubled the titles it competes in and plans to add more in the near future. 
David started gaming early in life and shares a love of video games with the team.  
The team has earned three consecutive Overwatch Championships. 
Since Assuming the role of head coach:

• The Fortnite squad has reached the championship round each year. 
• The Marvel Rivals Squad was formed in 2026. 
• The Smash Bros Squad was formed in 2026. 
• The Call of Duty Team earned consecutive playoff berths. 
• Held its first annual Smash Brothers Tournament for local Middle school and High School aged Students.

In addition to serving as Esports Head Coach, David serves as a professor in the School of Business and Innovation.  He is also the Director of Regulatory Affairs, 504 Compliance Officer, and the Title IX Deputy Coordinator for Education and Prevention.
