Darren Johnson

Darren Johnson is in his second year as the faculty athletic representative. Dr. Johnson is an associate professor of Psychology and director of the Substance Abuse Counseling program.  He earned his BA at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, his MA at Ashland Theological Seminary, and his PhD at Capella University. He became an Ohio Christian faculty member for the AGS program in 2011, then transitioned as a full-time faculty for the traditional program in 2018.

Prior to coming to Ohio Christian, Dr. Johnson has worked in the field of substance abuse and mental health since 1994 as a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor with clinical supervision (LICDC-CS) as well as a licensed independent professional clinical counselor (LPCC).  He specializes in individual and group counseling as well as conducting clinical assessments for the judicial court system.

Dr. Johnson has been involved in athletics most of his life and excelled in basketball when he was younger. He is “excited to be able to serve and do my part for Ohio Christian Athletics.”

He and his wife, Misty, live just outside Stoutsville on a small farm along with their two dogs, Hank and Otis.
