Volleyball Returns Home from Michigan with Two Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Lansing, MI - The volleyball team finished its weekend in Michigan with a 2-1 record, earning a sweep over Great Lakes Christian College on Friday before splitting a pair of matches against Rochester Christian and Judson on Saturday. 

The Trailblazers opened the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Great Lakes Christian, taking the sets 25-8, 25-13, and 25-18. OCU finished the march with 21 kills and 17 service aces while holding the Lakers to a -.075 hitting percentage. 

Kynedi Davis led the Trailblazers with eight kills, while Julia Orndorf and Kennedy Bowling each added seven. Hannah Skaggs recorded a team-high eight service aces, while Emma Hannah added four. Hannah also helped the offense with 14 assists, with Kennedy Groff contributing ten. Defensively, Sophie Coleman led OCU with eight digs. 

OCU faced Rochester Christian on Saturday in its second match of the weekend. The Trailblazers battled through four sets but fell 3-1. After Rochester took the opening set, 25-17, OCU responded with a 25-15 win in the second. Rochester then claimed the final two sets, 25-20 and 25-21. 

The Trailblazers were led offensively by Kennedy Bowling, who finished with nine kills. Hailey Sembach added seven kills, while Davis recorded five. Hannah finished with 20 assists and Groff added 13. Coleman contributed defensively with 26 digs, while Davis had six blocks. 


Ohio Christian closed out the weekend against Judson University and responded with a 3-1 victory. The Trailblazers took the opening set 25-20 before Judson answered with a 25-13 win in the second. OCU regained control in the third set, winning 25-16, before closing out the match with a 25-23 victory in the fourth. 

Julia Orndorf led the Trailblazers with 11 kills, while Davis added nine and Bowling finished with seven. Davis also recorded eight blocks, while Bowling contributed six. Groff finished with 19 assists and Hannah added 18. 

Defensively, Coleman turned in a career performance, recording a career-high 35 digs against Judson to lead all players in the match. Her performance helped the Trailblazers withstand a competitive fourth set and secure the weekend-ending victory. With the 2-1 weekend, Ohio Christian improves to a 4-4 overall on the season. 

The Trailblazers are traveling to Florida for the NCCAA South Region Kickoff in Pensacola, Florida. They will play at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Friday and 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Saturday.
