Box Score Wilmore, KY - The Men's soccer team played Asbury University in the NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament; making it their first appearance at a regional tournament in eleven years.
Just shortly into the match, Asbury set OCU back after they scored a goal. From that point on, OCU found themselves under sustained pressure.
The second half saw OCU finding more momentum and rhythm in their game. Asbury continued to push forward, credited with 24 total shots to OCU's four shots. However, Mason Sim scored a goal, assisted by
William Boorman, tying the game at 1-1 and eventually sending the game into overtime.
The game resulted in a double overtime where neither team was able to score, eventually going to a PK shootout.
OCU was able to make their first two shots by
Caleb Rose and
Mason Sims, but the third shot was saved by Asbury's goalie, setting the Blazers behind and unable to catch up. Despite the loss, OCU ended on a high note and a well-played game.
Coach
Ryan Walker said, "I was so proud of how our guys fought last night. Obviously, coming up short is never fun, especially in a penalty shootout, but our group stuck to the game plan flawlessly and really gave a great performance against Asbury. The best is yet to come for this program, and we're committed to getting better everyday. What stands out most to me, though, is the love they have for each other.
He continued, "This group has a genuine brotherhood. YOu could see their heart on full display last night- every tackle, every sprint, every moment of adversity, they stayed united. Results matter, but the character of this team matters more. I'm incredibly proud of who they are and who they're becoming. Nights like this remind me why I coach. The future is bright for this program, and it's because of the men in that locker room."
