CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The Trailblazer JV and varsity volleyball teams got their home crowd excited for the season with two big wins over Kentucky Christian University. JV topped the Knights 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 25-21) and varsity did the same, 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16). The Trailblazers are now 3-2 on the season as they gear up for conference play that will start up in just a few weeks.
There were three freshmen in Ohio Christian's starting lineup and a total of five saw playing time. Sophomore
Josie Buck led the way with 16 kills while freshman
Alexa Mader followed with 12 kills and two aces.
Brittlyn Call and
Morgan Blakeman both came in with double digits as well with 11 and ten kills, respectively. Junior
Rylee Barr was clinical for the Trailblazers with 46 assists and 13 digs.
The game was tight throughout the first three sets, with neither team going on an extended run. Buck led a five-point run in the fourth set that gave the Trailblazers the nine-point lead they were able to carry through to round out the night with a comfortable win.
The Trailblazers have a four-game tournament at the University of Rio Grande on deck, where they will take on Bluefield University, West Virginia Tech, Union College and Shawnee State University. The tournament runs from Friday, September 1
st to Saturday, September 2
nd. They then return home for a tri-match with Rochester University and the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday, September 9
th.
