CIRCLEVILLE, OH – The University of Rio Grande spoiled Ohio Christian's senior night 3-0 by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-21. The game was a battle despite the scoreline, with 17 tie scores and 10 lead changes.
The Trailblazers honored seniors
Rylee Barr,
Brittlyn Call,
Caraline Ferguson,
Allison Thompson, Chloe Zelenka and Liza Zelenka for their contributions to the program.
The Trailblazers came up with 30 kills and eight blocks in the loss.
Madison Blickenstaff had nine kills and two blocks while
Alexa Mader came up with eight kills and three blocks.
Brittlyn Call had five kills and a team-high four blocks.
Sophie Coleman was solid on defense with 23 digs while
Rylee Barr had 27 assists.
The Red Storm forced a Trailblazer timeout early, going up 11-5 to start the game. The Trailblazers came back to go within one at 15-14. A huge kill from Call brought the crowd to their feet and kept them within one at 16-15.
The Trailblazers refused to roll over, swinging hard and often despite some solid defense by the Redstorm. They couldn't finish in the first set, falling 25-21. Blickenstaff came up with five kills in the first set.
Ohio Christian took a 6-4 lead in the second set, but couldn't hold it. The set saw three lead changes but the Redstorm took it 25-16.
A big solo block by Call pulled the Trailblazers level at 11 and it was a back and forth battle until they forced a Redstorm timeout with a 15-14 lead. The Redstorm offense combined with unforced errors by the Trailblazers were too much and Rio took the final set 25-21.
The Trailblazers finish out their season this Saturday, November 4
th at 12 p.m. when they travel to Shawnee State University.
